今年で4回目…下北沢であそぶ サーキット型クルージングパーティー「Shimokitazawa SOUND CRUISING 2015」が5月30日に開催された。ロックからダンス…フロアをにぎやかすアーティストたちが下北沢に一挙集結。
Shimo Kitazawa Sound Cruising 2015 was the forth installment of the festival where over a dozen venues feature over a hundred artists from 2 in the afternoon through to 5 the following morning last Saturday. Shimo Kita has long ties with music, the area has a laid back, local indie vibe despite the fact it’s easily accessible from both Shinjuku and Shibuya. We were there on Saturday to see The Dumplings, a dreamy teen duo from Poland whose contemporary pop sound echoed from the walls reminding us of the vitality of both music and youth outside of Japan. 新宿、渋谷からのアクセスも便利で学生や古着好きが集まる下北沢。「とことん遊ぶ」をコンセプトに…カラオケや遊園地、居酒屋にゲームセンター、と同じくらいラフにライブハウスで遊ぶことができる日常の延長線上のエンターテイメント。下北沢のライブハウス11箇所を会場に、それぞれのアーティストがオリジナリティ溢れるサウンドで会場は大盛況。2014年にブレイクしたポーランド出身のエレクトロポップ デュオ「The Dumplings」は、初の日本来日でディープな歌詞とどこかエモーショナルなライブを披露した。そして、最もクレイジーで虜になってしまった … 地獄絵図だと評判の「オワリズム弁慶」のライブパフォーマンス。ふんどし姿のヴォーカルに忍者のようなポーズ、ジャポニズムなアイテムに衣装、壁にはアンパンマンの仮面と書作が。
We saw another few bands, yet none were as exhilarating as オワリズム弁慶 (Owarizumu Benkei). We stumbled upon them by accident, that’s how such discoveries usually work and why events like Shimokitazawa Sound Cruising are so important. One of the best live performances I’ve ever seen, their style can be described as Butoh Rock meets Matsuri Ska, dancers and performers backed by a full band and powerful singers, a sermon delivered in multiple layers. It was mesmerizing. Enough to peek our interest into looking into Shimo Kitazawa Sound Cruising next year.
