“All About Democracy” at DIESEL DENIM GALLERY AOYAMA

DIESEL DENIM GALLERY AOYAMAにて、マティアス（Mathias）の世界初となる個展「All About Democracy」が11月20日（金）より開催される。これまで彼が新聞や雑誌に発表してきた漫画やイラストの中から選りすぐった傑作及び、DIESEL DENIM GALLERY AOYAMAのために制作された新作を展示するとのこと。

Exhibition Concept : ALL ABOUT DEMOCRACY
「今日の世界は腐敗そして堕落し、もはや機能していない。コミカルなタッチで政治情勢を語る時代はもうとっくに終わっているよ。」

Mathiasは、大統領や政治家などの著名な権力者を選び、彼らと今日の世界情勢を題材にしたストーリーを鋭い視線と洞察力で風刺画風に作り上げていく。彼のイラストには、今日の社会状況や民主主義に対する不満や疑問が描かれ、その奥には貧困や環境汚染、そして不正のない平等な社会を望んだ強いメッセージが込められている。Mathiasは、彼らの姿を鮮明にそして酷似にコンピューター上で次々に描きあげていく。電車でもレストランでも至る所でノートパソコンを広げて創作活動をする彼の姿は、間もなく東京でも見られることになる。

また、会場ではMathiasのオリジナル限定Tシャツやアート作品が販売される。

‘All about Democracy’ is to open November 20th at Aoyama’s Diesel Denim Gallery. It’s the first solo exhibition from Dutch artist, cartoonist and illustrator Mathias. Focusing a sharp satirical eye on social issues and politics Mathias creates digital drawings which have been featured in news papers and magazines around the world, as well as developing a cult internet following. Whilst mocking those in power and the systems of democracy in this age, the illustrations hope for a better world free of the trappings of poverty and pollution with social justice for all.
