50年代〜60年代のロカビリーアイテムを取り揃える「原宿ジャックス」の20周年記念パーティーが、昨夜渋谷トランプルームにて開催された。50年代のアメリカンガレージ＋メキシカンな雰囲気を醸し出す下北沢の「PSYCHO APPAREL」で働くアイコンガール、カスミのお誘いを受け足を運んでみた。会場には、ELOVIS佐藤オーナーはもちろん、今回の20周年記念パーティーのために訪れたピンナップモデルでもお馴染み、バーニー・デクスター＆リーヴァイ・デクスター夫婦（ロカビリー好きならこのお二方を知らない訳がない）。そして、バーレスクショーにポールダンス、ピンナップコンテストと盛り沢山のコンテンツで会場は大盛況。なんだか、スポーツテイストでスワッグ調のキッズが多い東京のストリートだが、50’sスタイルのスーツにリーゼントとといったセットがとても新鮮で懐かしさを覚える。
改めて…「原宿ジャックス」20周年おめでとうございます！
Last night my friend Kasumi from Shimo Kitazawa’s PSYCHO APPAREL store invited me to the 20th Anniversary of Harajuku Jack’s. A globally recognized rockabilly institution, the store stocks vintage items alongside contemporary lines in the spirit of Americana Classics. Charismatic store owner Elovis Sato presided over the night which included ‘Rockin’ Brand Fashion Shows, Burlesque performances, Pin-up girls contests and dance competitions – all populated by guys with pompadours and girls in vintage print dresses. In the land of Cos-play amongst a #throwback generation the night could have felt nostalgic, but it felt vibrant and current, a scene so thoroughly lived in and enjoyed by the drinking, jiving attendees. The American Swag Sports Aesthetic has such a hold over the streets of Tokyo right now, it was a refreshing change to see Trump Room filled with boys in suits.
