フォトグラファー、アーヴィング・ペン（Irving Penn）とファッションデザイナー、三宅一生（Issey Miyake）による展覧会「Irving Penn and Issey Miyake Visual Dialogue」が2011年9月16日より 21_21DESIGN SIGHT（ミッドタウン・ガーデン内）にて開催されている。アヴィング・ペンと三宅一生の最初の接点は、1983年の「VOGUE」誌編集ページで初めてペンがISSEY MIYAKEの服を撮影したことだった。87年春夏コレクションから99年の秋冬コレクションまで13年間にわたり年2回の撮影がニューヨークで行われ、この間三宅は一度も撮影に立ち会うことなく、ペンすべてを任せ、それぞれのクリエーションを介した「Visual Dialogue（視覚的対話）」が交わされたとのこと。なんだか素晴らしい。会場にはペンが撮影したポートレートや、ポスター、スケッチ、ほか … マイケル・クロフォード（Michael Crawford）のイラストなど。是非足を運んでみるべし。超高精細プロジェクターによる写真の大画面投影はかなりの迫力。

We finally made it to the Irving Penn and Issey Miyake Visual Dialogue Exhibition at the 21_21 Design Site last week. Actually this was our first time in this space, and what seems like a small building in the gardens of Midtown actually spreads deep underground giving a cavernous space to celebrate the relationship between these two remarkable talents. The Japanese designer sent his collection to be photographed by the New York based Penn over a two decade time period, this exhibition is a retrospective of this unique relationship and well worth a visit. The exhibition also displays some of Penn’s well known prints, making the exhibition a must for fashion and photography fans alike.
