Japanese film ‘shoplifters’ wins at Cannes

21年ぶりのパルムドールを受賞、是枝裕和監督の最新作「万引き家族」が、第71回カンヌ国際映画祭で最高賞のパルムドールを受賞。

今度の主役は犯罪でしかつながれなかった家族。高層マンションの谷間にポツンと取り残された今にも壊れそうな平家に、4人の家族が転がり込み、この家の持ち主である叔母の初枝の年金だけを頼りに、足りない生活品は万引きで賄っていたという東京の下町に暮らす一家のヒューマンドラマ。

Director Hirokazu Koreda’s movie ‘Shoplifters’ has been awarded the Palme d’Or at 2018’s Cannes film festival. ‘Shoplifters’, more fittingly called ‘Manbiki Kazoku’ (shoplifting family) in Japanese, tells the story of a family living on the puter edges of Tokyo and society, surviving b means of petty crime. It’s a rarely told story of poverty in Japanese society.
