マイケル・コースを運営するマイケル・コース・ホールディングス・リミテッドが、「ヴェルサーチ」を約20億ドル（約2300億円）で買収したことが明らかに。LVMHやケリングに続く大企業を目指すべく、昨年のジミーチュウ買収に続いてヴェルサーチもグループに迎えることで高級部門を強化する方針を示している。また、これを機に名称「カプリ・ホールディング」へと変更することを発表。

「ヴェルサーチ」ブランド創業者ジャンニ・ヴェルサーチへ敬意を示すべく、1997年に起きたジャンニ・ヴェルサーチ殺害事件以来、妹のドナテラ・ヴェルサーチが兄（ジャンニ）の後任として牽引してきたヴェルサーチ。昨年の9月には、悲劇的事件から20年という月日を迎えて、亡きジャンニに捧げる2018年春夏オマージュコレクションを披露した。フィナーレでは、90年代に一斉を風靡した元祖スーパーモデルのナオミ・キャンベル、シンディ・クロフォード、クラウディア・シファー、ヘレナ・クリステンセン、カーラ・ブルーの5人が登場しスタンディングオベーションで会場中が騒然。
リカルド・ティッシ（バーバリー）、キム・ジョーンズ（ディオール）、ヴァージル・アブロー（ルイ・ヴィトン）の中の1人が新生「ヴェルサーチ」の舵取りとも噂されていた2017年。結局、ヴェルサーチには誰も就任せず、方向性が不明のまま時間が過ぎていった。
２つの異なる組織、アメリカの企業が魅惑的ヨーロッパのファッションブランドとどう手を組むのか、店舗数も増やし売上拡大を目標に挙げ、とても興味深い再出発。
Michael Kors has bought Versace for an amount reported to be around $2 billion. Seemingly keen to establish itself as a multi-label conglomerate, Versace joins Jimmy Choo at the group which has renamed itself from Michael Kors Holdings to Capri Holdings.
As well as paying tribute to brand founder Gianni, last years gathering of the original supermodels on the runway in Milan felt like an encore. Names including Ricardo Tisci, Kim Jones and Virgil Abloh were rumored to be taking the helm at Versace but as they were named to positions at Burberry, Dior Men and Louis Vuitton respectively it became unclear what direction the company would take. Quite how the American corporate entity will work together with one of European fashions most glamorous and well known names remains to be seen but Donatella Versace is said to staying on to oversea the brand.
