原宿のネオンサインに引き込まれ、1971年に生まれ今年で生誕100周年を迎えるコンバースの「オールスター」。それを記念して新たなハイエンドライン「AVANT CONVERSE（アヴァン コンバース）」が誕生。ゲストデザイナーにはアルベール・エルバス（Alber Elbaz）を迎えて1世紀以上にわたり積み上げてきた「アメリカ」、「スポーツ」、「ベーシック」、「カジュアル」といったブランドイメージとは一線を画する新たな高みを目指し進化していく。昨夜のお披露目では、アルベールの姿はもちろん、様々な楽器を使って懐かしの曲からビヨンセやファレルの曲まで奏でた東京チンドン倶楽部。
色違いで愛用していたあの頃、3月25日の発売を記念して1日限定のスペシャルイベント【AVANT CONVERSE ONE-DAY INSTALLATION】が開催される。

As a merry Chindon’ya (Japanese marching band) played Beyonce and Pharrell tracks, Designer Alber Ebaz’ joie de vivre manifested itself in a forest of neon signs in Harajuku last night. The evening was to celebrate the launch of Alber’s collaboration with Converse, ‘AVANT CONVERSE’, a collection of 6 unique leather designs exclusive to Japan. The Avant line is a new highend footwear line by Converse in commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the ‘All Star’ which was born in 1917. The sneakers will be available to buy at Converse retailers throughout Japan, and for one day only in the specially created installation at Bank Gallery on March 25th. Pictured above with Joe, Mr Ebaz has used his instagram to share the enjoyment of traveling around the world since ending his tenure at Lanvin. Last night he was happy to be back in the creative spotlight.
