KYUN DESU

A week ago in Shibuya, KYUN DESU VALENTINE’S SPECIAL. I’ve waited a while to get KYUN alone; it’s been collab after collab for party organizer @bananaoka and her cohort of cheeky party demons these past few months. The party took place in ENTER at GEMS Shibuya, a building that’s become a beacon for pervasive Bro culture nightlife. But just when you think Tokyo indie fashion kids are extinct, here they are.

The meaning of KYUN can be felt in its onomatopoeic nature; ‘kyyyuunnnnnn’. It’s cute for when kawaii isn’t deep enough – when something (or someone) makes your heart flutter. It’s an aesthetic that resembles parties past with an attitude that is very much of today, Y2K stylings in 2024 for a post-FRUITS/TUNE generation. It even has its own track (the BGM for this video), which takes me back to TRIPPPLE NIPPPLES ‘RIP MEAT’ and The Lowbrows ‘Linda is Tonight’ – it’s all come full circle.

Thanks for having me x x x
