sorry, but i have to suggest some constructive criticism to the model (joe, right?),
not to say that he shouldn’t model, on the contrary, i think he has a good face and all that
but after reading the blog for several months now and seeing his picture
in the photoshoots this blog organizes
i have to cringe and say
he severely overposes
his look lends itself to a “guy who tries to pose like a female model”
and it just comes out looking very drag or zoolanderish
i see these pictures and think “oh, this is a gay man misinterpreting fashion”
I can objects this advcie go more than to two different types of humans: modern Microsoft zune masters which can be regarding an upgrade, and folks necessary . decide on from a Microsoft zune plus an apple ipod. (Additional casino players worth taking into consideration around the market, significantly The Walkman Times, yet unfortunately Ie2€™m hoping this you sufficient important details crank out ramifications , before final choice of their Microsoft zune vs . enthusiasts with the exception of ipod array , too.)

Whilst I kind of understand the sentiment expressed above I have to disagree. Joe is representative of a typical fashion forward male of our scene. Toyko Dandy represents a scene in Tokyo which you say ‘misreprsents fashion’ but on a larger scale people view as being unique and special. Have you seen how people dress and pose in the party photos? That’s just how guys are here. Gay, straight or somewhere inbetweem (we tend not to cateogorize so much to be honest)
Your narrow mindedness kind of makes me cringe.
If you look at any japoanese fashion magazine, they use either half/mixed-race or foreign models. In the next year we will continue to use other japanese models in a style that represents the scene in which we, and fashion, thrive. If you want to pigeon hole that into being ‘gay’ or ‘zoolanderish’ that’s fine, but it would be more fun for you to learn about a scene which is actually juist different and come along for the ride.
As for misinterpreting fashion, it’s our friends brand. They asked to use Joe as to them, and to many other people who live in Tokyo Town, Joe is a strong example of a Japanese male heading into 2010. It’s not going to be the same as your copy of American Nylon guys or GQ – and that’s how we like it.
Dan
i like japanese fahison style. so, i always search japanese street fahison blog or site. i am inspired your blog. respect! from : hoyasnap, korean street fahison reporter.p.s i love magazine ‘tune’!
Hello !
I’m a daily reader… I was working for a big european Fashion company in Tokyo and also a male model.
I saw few times Tokyo Dandy people in parties. I like the spirit and the idea !
Quickly !
Good collaboration, of the brand and Tokyo Dandy you got the same Visual (Bar code…)
I like the fact that you used japanese model (Joe). In the other way, he is too much multitasker, maybe it will corrupted is “Journalist part”.
I can catch easily the identy of the brand, i like the black on white…. I love the white chair very cool.
But i understand that Winter is cold and Tokyo Dandy is close of the Trump room staff, but Tokyo got so many good places to shot !
I appreciate the pose, the jean is cool and the gilet too….(no for the black nails) ; )
Keep it up for your work !
Credits ? AD, Make up A, Stylist…..???
Happy New Year from Paris !
I think Joe is a perfectly good model who gives a wide variety of poses. He was good in the Nozomi Ishiguro show. It’s up to you if you think he overposes or not.
I have to take issue, however, with Dan’s comment that this scene is viewed by many “as being unique and special.” There is nothing unique about this scene at all. The New York scene in the 70s, the Blitz club in London in the early 80s and even TFR in Tokyo in recent years all represent the same kind of scene – young stylish people having fun and mixing with similar minded people. Nothing I see on Tokyo Dandy is special. That’s not to say it isn’t interesting or cool. I appreciate the site and the posts and the photos are interesting in that they show what is happening in Tokyo right now.
Masa, I am from the states and study subcultures etc and can assure you from an outsiders perspectvie the scene represented on Tokyo Dandy is very much unique and special. I was in Tokyo for TFR which was great but very much a response to the movie party monster and the club scene that was based on.
The scene now has established DJ’s, designers, trends and mini-celebrities. Tokyo Dandy didn’t satrt this but they are the only people out there part of iot and documenting it. The photos on TokyoDandy.com are amazing and i think it is really insulting and above all WRONG to say there is nothing special on this website. There aren’t party photos like this anywhere.
Tokyo Dandy also shows a mix of club fashion and p[eople with visiting designers/musicians etc. Is there anywhere else I can see this Masa? Can you point me in the direction of another website which has the same kind of content as Tokyo Dandy does?
To the people who run Tokyo Dandy, happy new year, keep up the good work.
Dylan, I think I made it clear that I wasn’t insulting the site. In the last paragraph I wrote that I am a fan of what Tokyo Dandy are doing. Also – stating that you are studying subcultures doesn’t validate your opinion as right and mine as WRONG. That is ridiculous.
If you read my post again you also find that I don’t say that there are other sites that document this kind of scene. I’m not talking about websites I’m talking about scene itself. There are numerous scenes, past and present, that are very much similar to the scene that Toyo Dandy documents. Finally I think it is your opinion that TFR originated from Party Monster. I think that simplifies what TFR were doing.
Really trustworthy blog. Please keep updanitg with great posts like this one. I have booked marked your site and am about to email it to a few friends of mine that I know would enjoy reading
Ridiculous? Masa relax. You sound like a typical japanese queen who spent some out of japan and now thinks he knows it all. Me offering my opinion doesn’t mean i think yours is wrong buddy!
Like i said, from an outsiders perspective the tokyo scene is a subculture. TFR was amazing but it is almost an off-shoot of a greater scene based in tokyo that i think Tokyo Dandy.com covers well.
r, BYT’s is awesome but i meant in Tokyo.
