A year in Vogue! Here are the 12 covers that have made up Vogue Nippon in 2010. Which is your favorite cover from the past year? Mine (Dan) is Lily Donaldson in May. Kudos to Vogue Nippon in being consistent in their use of models rather than celebrities like the sad roster of actresses that US Vogue uses. It’s still a little alarming that all of the models are white… we believe in the beauty of Asian women (and men). But is that a reflection of the industry as a whole? Vogue Nippon is consistent in using the biggest faces in the industry, those faces happen to be white, do you think Vogue Nippon should follow this agenda or be more ethnically diverse, at least represent their readership more?

My guess is that the majority of Vogue Nippon`s readers prefer the covers with foreign models, because they are buying Vogue specifically to try and tap into something beyond just Japanese styling and trends. Otherwise they would be purchasing one of the domestic fashion mags. The foreign face on the cover must be like an `Imported` stamp that gives them an added sense of value.
Yeah I think it would be great to see more Japanese models on the cover, but I think in Japan, the models or the photographers or the stylists all kind of over cuteify things. if you look at the jmags like Vivi or CanCan, its almost too kawaii, and not high fashion.
i liked this kind of japanese model though, kinda edgy
